Description:
This CME activity consists of the ASGE video, Endoscopic Management of Variceal Hemorrhage in Cirrhosis, followed by a post-assessment and evaluation.
Gastroesophageal varices (GEV) are present in approximately 50% of patients with cirrhosis. GEV hemorrhage is the most common lethal complication of cirrhosis, occuring in ~20% if untreated. This video focuses on the endoscopic management of esophageal varices, and includes sections on endoscopic screening, prophylaxis and the acute management of patients with variceal hemorrhage.
Target Audience:
Practicing gastrointestinal endoscopists, gastroenterologists, gastroenterology fellow and trainees, medical residents, physician assistants and nurses.
Learning Objectives:
As a result of completing this activity, physicians will be able to:
• Demonstrate endoscopic therapy for identification and hemostatic management of esophageal varices.
